The Mahmoud Kahil Award is an award program under the Rada and Mutaz Sawaf Center for Arab Comics Studies at the American University of Beirut that aims to promote comics, editorial cartoons, and illustrations in the Arab world through the recognition of the rich talent and creative achievement of comics artists, cartoonists, and illustrators in the region. This program was established in 2014 upon the initiative of Mr. Mu’taz Sawwaf to honor and perpetuate the legacy of the late Mahmoud Kahil, one of the leading cartoonists and caricaturists of the Arab world, and a former AUB graduate.

The architecture of Yemen and its reconstruction (rev. ed.) by Salma Samar Damluji

First published in 2007, The Architecture of Yemen was the first book to offer an in-depth investigation into the characteristic architecture of country and the result of nearly two decades of research. This new, revised edition includes drawings, documentation and information on the building and reconstruction projects carried out from 2008 to 2014 at locations in Hadrumat and Dawan. Moving beyond the major cities, Salma Samar Damluji explores the architecture of regions that could be said to be the last strongholds of traditional Arab architecture.

Graphic Narratives from Lebanon's 2019 Popular Uprisings by Edited by Lina Ghaibeh

At the onset of the Lebanese October 17th revolution, what initially began as a class assignment to tell the story of the streets of Beirut, transformed into one of illustrating personal accounts of the Thawra as the protests raged on. These thirteen visual stories provide a powerful testament to the profound impact of the experience of being a part of the Thawra in Beirut, from the various perspectives of a generation hoping for change. The project began in late October and was completed at the beginning of December 2019. This is the English translation of the original Arabic edition of the work. The collection contains a sticker pack of the artwork. Authored and illustrated by the design students of “Alternative Comics” at the American University of Beirut.

مع بداية الثورة اللبنانية في تشرين الأول/أكتوبر، اكتسب مشروع جامعي طلب من التلاميذ سرد قصة شارع في بيروت معنى جديدا أكثر وضوحا بعد أن انضموا الى حراك الشارع. وكونهم كانوا غير قادرين على احتواء التأثير العميق والكبير لتجربتهم، حولوا المشروع الى سرد قصة الثورة التي انطلقت والتي شاركوا فيها. القصص المصورة في هذا الكتاب التي بدأ العمل بها في أواخر تشرين الأول/أكتوبر وامتد الى بدايات كانون الأول/ديسمبر في وقت كانت الثورة تحتدم، هي سير ذاتية ومدونات شخصية للثورة حصيلة أفكار ورسومات تلامذة التصميم في إطار مادة "القصص المصورة البديلة" التي وضعتها وأشرفت عليها الأستاذة لينا غيبة ضمن برنامج التصميم لدى فرع الهندسة المعمارية والتصميم في كلية مارون سمعان للهندسة والعمارة في الجامعة الأميركية في بيروت.

Inclusive university built environments by Itab Shuayb

This book investigates the impact of Approved Document M--introduced to address accessibility and usability issues for people with disabilities in newly constructed facilities--on different university buildings in the United Kingdom. A selection of six buildings at the University of Kent, the University of Bath, and the University of Essex, built within the six decades spanning the 1960s through the 2010s, are studied to investigate the impact of the measure on changing building designs to be accessible for all potential users, including people with disabilities.
