EndNote: Online Search from EndNote

This guide provides basic information on using EndNote (citation management tool)

Search Directly from within EndNoteX


The Library of Congress catalog as well as LISTA, PubMed and Web of Science databases can be searched using Online Search within EndNote.

  1. Select the Online Search Mode icon OR go to Tools and click on Online Search
  2. In the Group panel select the database you want to search e.g. PubMed
  3. Type your search terms in the search boxes
  4. A pop-up window will open with the number of search results
  5. Define the number of results to display
  6. Click OK to display your search results
  7. Highlight and select the search results you want to export into your library
    • Right click on the selected results
    • Select Add Reference To to move references to one of your folders
