Creating Data

Creating or collecting data is the first step in the cycle. Does the data exist? Where do I get it from? Do I need to generate it? Designing the research and planning data management are crucial at this point. It is also important to make sure that the data acquired is accurate and valid because it will have a great impact on the output.
Data collection techniques include: interviews, questionnaires, surveys, focus groups, observation, ethnography, oral history, documents and records.
Data format should also be decided beforehand for each type of data accordingly.
If you need any help with acquiring and licensing your data, we are here to help you.

Processing Data

In this phase data is digitized, validated, organized, cleaned, anonymized(IRB) and stored.
We will not do the job for you but we can give you some tips and guidance on how the pre-processing may be done effectively.

Analyzing Data

After processing the data, it is ready for interpretation. There are several ways and tools available for you to analyze your data.
Please check the list of tools we have compiled for you here. The library will offer some introductory sessions on how to use each tool.

Publishing Data

To be able to publish your data and share it effectively, you must make sure that the data is well described, has a permanent link such as a DOI and is stored in an appropriate repository. We will offer you all of 3 services through our Data Repository.

Archiving and preserving Data

By preservation, we do not only mean safe storage. Archived data is indexed and can be easily retrieved in the future. Preserved or archived data is also periodically refreshed and migrated to the appropriate formats to ensure continuous access to it.
