Sheikh Zayed Chair for Arabic and Islamic Studies at the American University of Beirut aims to support research, increase awareness, and encourage greater interest in the study of Islamic religious thought, Quranic studies, Belles-Lettres, Sufism, history, literature, grammar, lexicography, philology, law, and other aspects of the Arabic-Islamic civilization.
The Chair offers MA and PhD scholarships in Arabic and Islamic Studies, and sponsors international academic conferences, public lectures, research forums, film screenings, workshops, and roundtables to promote Arabic and Islamic studies in the region—and reinvigorate the humanities at AUB.
