SDGs at the American University of Beirut

An overview of SDG resources and a compilation of selected AUB faculty publications related to the 17 SDGs.

Interesting facts:

  • Finland ranked first in the total progress towards achieving all 17 SDGs followed by Sweden, Denmark, and Germany (according to Sustainable Development Report accessed on September 20, 2023). Lebanon ranked 95th according to the same report.

  • 19 Arab countries have not yet achieved a single SDG (according to 2022 Arab region SDG index and dashboard report). Only two Arab countries (Lebanon and UAE) achieved SDG 1 (No Poverty), while Palestine is the only Arab country that achieved SDG 14 (Life below Water) according to the same report.

  • The Times Higher Education Impact Rankings are the only global performance tables that assess universities against the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
