RSS Feeds: RSS for Journals

What is RSS? Why use it? How to us it with Journals and Databases?

RSS Feed for Table of Contents of Journals

To set up RSS feeds for table of contents (TOC) of journals  you need to:

   1-   Create an account in a feed reader, check RSS Compendium List of news readers 
   
 2-   Look for the RSS sign on the journal page,   
 
  3-   Right click on the icon, copy the syndication feed link (URL)
   
4-   Go to your feed reader, follow instructions to create a new feed and paste the link 

To see your incoming feeds, go to your reader and check for RSS feeds updates

Locate RSS for TOCs

There are many ways to locate the RSS Feed of table of contents (TOC) of a journal:  


Option one

Use UlrichsWeb database to create a list of RSS feeds of your favorite journals
  

Go to the homepage of a journal and see if it has an RSS subscription service

 

  • Under E-Resources select UlrichWeb>>Advanced Search>> Click on >>More Limiters>>and under Key Features check RSS Availability and perform your search.
  • Select a title e.g. Journal of Science Teacher Education
  • Click on Online Availability>> RSS Availability

 

 

  •  Copy and paste the URL into your feed reader


Option two

Use ticTOCs to create table of content feeds of your favorite journals  

  • TOCs Journal Tables of Contents Services (www.tictocs.ac.uk) is a free service that allows academics, researchers and students to view and export tables of contents from different publishers and open access journal collections into a feed reader


Option three

Use Journal Finder to locate a journal in a database 
 

  • Link to the electronic version of the desired journal through Business Source Premier  

 

  • Click on Alert/Save/Share and select RSS Feed 

 

  • Paste the RSS Feed URL into your feed reader
